WOW. “AshFiera” by KL Anderson was amazing. I was lucky enough to be introduced (virtually) to KL through Threads (if you’re a reader who enjoys supporting Indie authors, I hugely suggest making that social media site your favorite). When she asked me to Beta read for her, my heart basically exploded because “AshFiera” sounded AMAZING.
After Raine’s father’s disappearance, her and her mother are left to continue her shadow assassin training with her Uncle Cassius. Raine is an 18 year old young woman powerhouse living in AshFiera, whose powers never manifested the way her parents and her parents expected. 5 years after her father’s disappearance, assassin’s show up to her home looking for Raine, instead, they find her mother. Heartbroken, but following her mother’s instructions to run, Raine does just that, finding herself transported through a portal to a new world, her mother’s birth world on Earth.
Straight up, Raine is a bad-ass. I truly can’t think of a better word to describe her. She is a fighter, and a thinker with a brain and a heart. She is a very well-rounded character. Especially once you see her softer side when she meets Kalpheus. Kal is a guardian tasked by Raine’s mother and uncle to protect her who immediately falls in love with Raine’s strength and grace. While Raine doesn’t return his feelings right away (the amount of times she calls him a stalker is actually hilarious), the development of their relationship is lovely.
When Raine discovers secrets kept by both of her parents, she dives in head first to solving them all. Raine finds herself on a journey to find out the truth about both of her worlds – Earth and AshFiera. I can’t wait to see where her journey takes her (and those around her).
TLDR: WOW. “AshFiera” by KL Anderson was amazing. I loved learning about the world, and Raine’s story. The overall bad-ass woman vibe that Raine gives off while also showing that it’s okay to be in the process of finding yourself and discovering who you are without your parents is an amazing tone to set for the entire series (because I KNOW this cannot & will not be a one-shot). Raine develops a relationship with Kalpheus, a guardian tasked by her mother to protect her. The chemistry between them is undeniable – it’s sweet and steamy and wonderful. The pacing of the story is wildly enjoyable. Enter Zynas into the scene and wooo – I am immediately hooked and anxiously awaiting the rest of the serious. Definitely grab this book if you love romantasy with a bad-ass female MC.
